Proposed savings accounts would help private schools

We live in a complex, diverse democracy whose independence is maintained to a great extent through an educated electorate. Ignorance is not democracy’s friend.

That’s why the U.S. public has been a strong supporter of public schools. In every town, city and state, maintenance and improvement of public schools are always a subject of political debate because they are considered so fundamental to our democracy — to say nothing of the well-being and continued prosperity of our people.

Public schools are, and should remain, secular, providing a good education to people of all religions and cultures, favoring none over others, benefiting religious and non-religious people. Unlike many countries in Europe, Latin America and elsewhere, U.S. governments by design provide very limited direct assistance to religious schools.

But like many people today, immigrants in the last and previous...

Dr. Edward Mazak Advancement in Public Awareness Award | Canadian Health Care Anti-fraud Association

In order to recognize achievements in raising public awareness about health care fraud, the CHCAA instituted the “Dr. Edward Mazak Advancement in Public Awareness Award” in 2005. Dr. Mazak was a practicing dentist as well as a Dental Consultant for a private insurer. His years of service to the dental profession and the insurance industry gave him a unique insight into the abuse of health care benefits and its overall affect on health care costs. This award is presented annually to individuals and organizations that have made an outstanding contribution to raising public awareness of health care fraud through efforts such as the development and implementation of a fraud awareness program or distributing anti-fraud information in a public forum.

The CHCAA congratulates the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC), who was this year’s recipient of the Dr. Edward Mazak Advancement in Public...

A portion of online ads can never actually be seen by real consumers, largely because of scammers that use non-human “bot” traffic or “invisible” ads to cheat marketers out of ad dollars. But questions about the size and severity of the issue remain unanswered. It’s essentially impossible to quantify what percentage of ads is fraudulent across the entire Web, or to estimate the number of ad dollars being wasted as a result.

Some industry execs say the fraud problem is being overestimated, often by companies selling technologies designed to prevent it.

“It is a problem, but like any problem it can get overblown,” said Scott Knoll, CEO of Integral Ad Science, which sells ad fraud protection products itself. Mr...
